Twitter/X allows 280 characters per tweet. URLs count as 23 characters regardless of length. Replies that begin with a username have those characters deducted from the limit.

A standard SMS allows 160 characters using GSM encoding. If you include emoji or special characters, it switches to Unicode encoding which limits it to 70 characters per message part. Longer texts are split into multiple messages.
