🤔 How Does This Tool Work?

Our Speed Converter converts all values through metres per second (m/s) as the base unit:

Conversion factors to m/s:

  • 1 km/h = 0.27778 m/s (divide by 3.6)
  • 1 mph = 0.44704 m/s
  • 1 knot = 0.51444 m/s
  • 1 fps (foot per second) = 0.30480 m/s

To convert: input value → convert to m/s → convert to target unit. For example, converting 100 km/h to mph: 100 ÷ 3.6 = 27.78 m/s → 27.78 ÷ 0.44704 = 62.14 mph.

❓ FAQ
How many mph is 100 km/h?
100 km/h = 62.14 mph. To convert km/h to mph, multiply by 0.6214. To convert mph to km/h, multiply by 1.609.
What is the speed of sound in km/h?
The speed of sound in air at sea level is approximately 343 m/s = 1,235 km/h = 767 mph. This is also called Mach 1. Aircraft that fly faster than this are called supersonic.
What is a knot?
A knot is a unit of speed used in aviation and maritime navigation. 1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour = 1.852 km/h = 1.151 mph. Wind speed forecasts and ship/aircraft speeds are typically given in knots.
How fast is 60 mph in km/h?
60 mph = 96.56 km/h (approximately 97 km/h). In general: multiply mph by 1.609 to get km/h, or divide km/h by 1.609 to get mph.
What is the fastest speed ever recorded?
The fastest speed ever achieved by a human-made object is approximately 692,000 km/h (430,000 mph) — reached by the Parker Solar Probe spacecraft as it orbited the Sun in 2023. Light travels at 1,080,000,000 km/h!
